PEACE WITH A DICTATORSHIP, IS WAR ON HUMAN RIGHTS
By: Freedom Fighter

Do you recall any peace treaty signed between a democracy and a dictatorship that produced a lasting peace? Peace with the Syrian dictatorship is an illogic of history. It is an agreement with illegitimacy that has usurped power, occupied neighboring Lebanon and pillaged it. Throughout 30 years of his dictatorial rule, Assad has financed, supported, and gave refuge to dozens of terrorist organizations. His troops have massacred hundreds of thousands of Lebanese, thousands of Palestinians, Syrians, Israelis, and International citizens. Obliterated whole town and cities, assassinated, kidnapped, tortured, and oppressed Lebanese and Syrians alike.

We urge President Clinton not to shake the filthy hand of the Syrian dictator, that same hand has signed thousands of human beings into torture dungeons to disappear in oblivion in the Syrian jails. The case has already been made for decades by International institutions such as Amnesty International, Middle East Human Rights Watch, the US State Department, as well as numerous other world institutions.

Assad is not a great Arab nationalist leader. He is a war criminal and a Grand Thief. He took what is not his and pillaged Lebanon. While proclaiming International Law through the application of UN resolution 232, he violates the same Laws by refusing to implement UN resolution 520 and the Taef Accord which both require he withdraws his occupation troops from Lebanon.

The Assad Dictatorship has weakened and retarded our area in all domains and the return of the Golan Heights will not change any fundamentals in Syria. Normally, a dictatorship needs enemies to justify its emergency powers. By Syria is beyond normal. The damage on its people and on Lebanon is almost irreversible without a radical change in its political infrastructure, perspective, practices, and behavior with its neighbors. Peace in the Middle East must mean the fall of the Syrian dictatorship and its replacement by a democracy that respects its own people human rights, as well as the rights of all its neighbors to live free under the sun in dignity, and security. The new democratic Syria must apologize for the historical crimes the Assad clan committed in Lebanon, withdraw all its occupation troops, recognize Lebanon as an independent state, disarm, surrender its war criminals, and pay reparations to the victims of their decades long bombardment of Lebanese residential districts and towns.

There cannot be peace in the Middle East which leaves the Syrian dictatorship standing. Violence against the human beings must stop for peace to have any meaning. We cannot wait for change. We have waited 30 years and matters got worse not better. The ascent of Assad’s son, Bashar, will not change anything. Short of a complete turnaround in Syrian behavior, it is guaranteed that no significant economic, social, scientific, nor ecological progress will be accomplished, and the area will be further retarded. The masses of the Middle East need “de-programming” from the ideologies of hate, rejection, absorption of others, and denial of their rights to freedom, peace, and self determination. It is time for the world powers who appeased Assad in the past to stand up to him now and reverse the course. The world institutions can regain credibility when they apply international law and restore the freedom, sovereignty, independence, and democracy to Lebanon.

We shall not accept anything short of the total destruction of the Syrian dictatorship, its withdrawal from Lebanon, and its replacement by a disarmed, peaceful, democratic, and humane regime. Only then can true peace be achieved. A peace treaty that ignores the Syrian occupation of Lebanon shall mean an immediate war. We shall rebel. We shall carry arms and wage a war that make Chechnya and Kosovo look like a picnic in comparison. We shall ally ourselves with all the democracies in the Middle East in Peace and War, including Israel, and we proclaim it with no shame, Loud and Proud. The Brotherhood of the Free is mightier than idiotic nationalism because it sanctifies the human being regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national or ethnic origins. We have more in common with the Israeli democracy and its human values than with the Syrian Dictatorship. We shall not stop until the Light of Freedom has penetrated all the Dark Alleys of the Middle East.

We stood courageously against Hitler in WW2. Syria’s little dictator may match Adolf in cruelty, but he cannot match him in clout, and he certainly does NOT deserve any respect as a statesman.

There will be no peace in the Middle East without a Free Lebanon!

Long Live Free Lebanon
