Six Historical Actions in One Day

February 16/2005

Monday’s Lebanese parliament meeting could be a historical chance for the Lebanese to effect an immediate and peaceful regime change. Dozens of thousands of Lebanese are expected to cordon the parliament building for several blocks and form a human sea that will pressure the MPs to take the following righteous actions:

  1. Bring down the Syrian-appointed Karame government.
  2. Reverse the illegal term extension of Emile Lahoud, the Syrian-appointed collaborator and so-called president.
  3. Elect a New President (Lebanon’s heart is for General Michel Aoun).
  4. PM Aoun can then appoint, over the phone from Paris, a Prime Minister known for his patriotic stands and integrity such as Mousbah Ahdab or a member of PM Hariri’s group.
  5. The PM designee will then form on the spot, a scaled-down transition government with 2 basic missions; oversee the Syrian occupation army’s immediate withdrawal, and prepare for a free, democratic election in April.
  6. Vote to warmly accept UN Resolution 1559, declare Syria in default of the Taef accord, and demand the immediate withdrawal of the Syrian occupation troops and all intelligence services from the country.

These six actions can be taken within the same session on Monday February 28, 2005. The opposition should be strengthened by the Lebanese people surrounding the parliament building on Monday. And the crowd should ban all Syrian-appointed MPs from leaving the premises until they surrender to Lebanon’s terms.

One thing is certain, whether these objectives are accomplished in one day or a few weeks, regime change is occurring in Lebanon, and soon after in Syria.
