Syrian Feats in Lebanon – Part V
By: General Michel Aoun

We are not concerned with all the huffing and puffing by the mercenaries of the Syrian regime and other mendicants and cronies, for they are graduates of the regime, both in their morals and their knowledge. And with the ongoing diarrhea in the media, there is no limit to their baseness.

It saddens us that the occupation has brought our society to this point, because no matter what, we are Lebanese, and we are proud that our society was a pioneer in promoting freedom of creed and speech, and respect for the right to be different. Yet we witness a total decline of all what makes a civil and advanced society. We seem to be going backwards in time to pre-history, and for no other reason but the intellectual primitiveness of those whom Damascus has installed in high positions. For they are the bad example that imposes itself through the hijacked media.

The judiciary of fate wants us to go back to the Genesis story of the Old Testament. It has re-written the story of Cain and Abel as the Syrian regime is re-writing the history of events in Lebanon, where Abel becomes Cain’s killer, and Cain the victim. Addoum today carries the scales of justice, always broken in his hands. And from the intensity of his interventions to defend Syria ’s interests in Lebanon and all over the world, observers might see him as an extension of the Attorney General of Syria in Lebanon, precisely like the Intelligence and security officers and the eloquent ministers.

How is it permissible for this judge to remain a judge when all he has in his hands is an empty file, which he keeps as a tool for political blackmail and scare tactics? And is this the meaning of justice for him, and how dare he open yet another file that he will find as empty as the heads of those who pushed him to open it? No doubt that dictatorial regimes that thrive on illusory victories and disguised respectability find the repeated shocks of multiple defeats in elections and in the international arena difficult to accept and sustain. However, we never thought they’d be so weak to the point of sounding the alarm and general mobilization on what we think is just the beginning of the road.

We have experienced the Syrian regime in a state of relaxation, when it refused to admit that there is a problem in Lebanon. Which is why it refused to dialogue, all the while pushing and shoving. Today, this regime claims that Syria is under siege, and it still won’t recognize that there is a problem in Lebanon. It still refuses to dialogue, still pushing and shoving. We wonder why are we asked to consider the current situation, when Syria has not budged an inch from its objective of dissolving Lebanon and annexing it. The fact that the Syrian regime and its agents are resorting to a barbaric campaign that is completely out of line against us, and that they have closed all access for us to the media, is an indication that they have nothing left to fight for. They have to resort to lies, to falsification in words and in deeds. They are afraid of people hearing the other opinion. They are, in essence, running away from the fundamental problem.

Eliminating sovereign Lebanon is the Syrian objective. For that purpose, Bashir Gemayel was assassinated and his murderers enjoy the protection of the Syrian regime. Habib Chartouni was let go from jail and he went to Syria with the arrival of the Syrian fo rces to the Rumieh prison. For the same purpose, René Mouawad was murdered while under the protection of the Syrians. Then all the evidence disappeared, the perpetrator was hidden, and no investigation was carried out. For the same purpose, there were three assassination attempts against me, and when they failed, the Free Zone was invaded and the criminals were released and I was exiled. Is this really the regime that will arraign us and investigate us? Is this regime really oblivious of the fact that it will itself be arraigned in court for the crimes against humanity it has committed?
Cain!! Cain!! You killed Abel and your conscience died. The hand of justice is coming down and the waiting will soon be over.
