Syrian Feats in Lebanon – Part I
General Michel Aoun

Many people wonder about the reasons for the failure of dealing with the Lebanese-Syrian crisis, and all the analyses on that subject have added confusion in the minds of the Syrian, Lebanese, Arab and international public opinion.

The moral humiliation imposed by the Syrian regime on both the Lebanese and Syrian peoples has exceeded what the Nazis did to the Jewish people during WWII. The Nazis did not require their victims to thank them for the crimes they committed against them, nor did they impose on them to consider these crimes a way for their salvation, and I am not aware of any Jew who has done that.

The control of the media, especially TV, and the forceful imposition of a Syrian flavor to it, make it a willing or unwilling contributor to the falsification of reality and history. It further compounds the crimes already committed with newer crimes that are carried out today.

Without going in detail over the history of Lebanese-Syrian events, we are nevertheless obligated to recall that history, even if in a cursory manner, because the Syrian side is actively falsifying its facts and underlying causes. Not a single political opportunity or media event is missed without the Syrian propaganda embarking on false premises to justify a physical or moral crime it committed – or commits – against Lebanon and the Lebanese.

The Syrian regime aims at dominating Lebanon, and for that purpose it has used all avenues since 1967 and directly after the six-day war. All the individuals who dealt with the crisis on the Syrian side are alive today, except for President Hafez Assad who died of natural causes. In contrast, those individuals on the Lebanese side of the crisis who oppose Syria have been assassinated, and very few of them did die of natural causes, yet after escaping numerous assassination attempts.

The many attempts by the Syrian intelligence to assassinate me directly or by proxy, will never deter me from telling the truth, resisting for the sake of justice, or helping those enslaved by fear and need.

We appreciate the difficult circumstances of some whose names are mentioned in this article, even if they feel compelled to attack us for whatever reason. Those who fear for their lives are excused. However, time has come to raise certain questions without expecting a reply from anyone, because we do not wish to cause yet another tragedy to those who already lost loved ones.

Let me begin by addressing myself to Mr. Walid Jumblatt, and ask him for a candid assessment of the information he has about the assassination of his father and what followed that crime.

Who killed Kamal Jumblatt? What is the status of the investigation into his assassination? Why have the criminals not been brought to justice? Why have those accused of the murder of Rashid Karameh and Danny Chamoun been tried? Is Kamal Jumblatt’s stature not as important as theirs? Who protects the killers and assassins from justice and the courts?

Walid Bek, did you incite the massacre that took place after your father’s assassination? And if not you, then who did? Who destroyed Damour and exiled its people after looting and burning the town? Where did these forces come from? Who sent them? Do you know that all the Christians who were slaughtered in the Shouf were pro-Jumblatt, especially the Aoun family who remain your allies today? How do you explain these feats that decorate your history and that are now returning to haunt your present?

Walid Bek, who are the money lords in Lebanon, and are you one of them? Who protects them, and who are the corrupt and the corrupting? You should know them, Walid Bek, for you are one of those same puppets with whom you share power today?

And after all of this, what are we to make of your credibility in what you say today??
