Canned Plots

The latest production staged by the Syrian and Lebanese intelligence services, where a terrorist plot against the American embassy and ambassador is uncovered is typical Baathist propaganda used when needed to justify its existence.

The glorious past of the Baathist regimes, both in Syria and Iraq, of uncovering "plots" is a rich one:

From Iraq, we have always heard about the seasonal foiling of coup attempts against the Great Leader and the Party where Saddam gets rid of "political enemies" and innocent civilians.

From Syria, the examples are abundant.

1. There are the 99.99% Presidential elections staged by the late Dictator Hafez Assad, a tradition carried on by his son Bashar.

2. The same with parliamentary, municipal, or any other elections where the ruling Baath party always wins by virtue of being the only one allowed to run.

3. Alleged plots against the regime and national security have landed most opposition figures in Syria in its notorious jails, from which most have never returned.

From occupied Lebanon, the Syrian regime has throughout the war and up to the present pitted every militia and politician against the other playing the role of the arsonist/fireman to justify its occupation.

The latest uncovering of the plot is nothing but an open can from the huge reserve of canned plots Syria has to use when push comes to shove and its occupation of Lebanon is threatened.

These tactics do not work any more because the international community lead by the United States is fully aware that Syria controls the supply and demand of terrorism and that is no longer acceptable.
