SENATOR JOHN KERRY OF MASSACHUSETTS, MAJOR CONTENDER
FOR THE 2004 PRESIDENTIAL BID, CO-SPONSORS THE SYRIA ACCOUNTABILITY AND LEBANESE
SOVEREIGNTY RESTORATION ACT
Boston, Massachusetts, July 18, 2003 The Senator from
Massachusetts and major contender for the Democratic Partys nomination for the 2004
presidential elections has endorsed the Syria Accountability and Lebanese Sovereignty
Restoration Act of 2003.
The New England Americans for Lebanon organization commends the senator for his courageous
stance in supporting this powerful foreign policy tool that the United States can use to
defend and protect the nation against terrorism.
In the debate on the use of war as a foreign policy instrument, everyone agrees that
diplomacy and economic pressures should be part of the arsenal of the US government
against the rogue state of Syria to bring it to desist from supporting terrorism, end its
occupation of Lebanon, and cease its development of weapons of mass destruction,
said Joseph Hitti, president of New England Americans for Lebanon. By co-sponsoring
the bill, Senator Kerry not only demonstrates courage and vision, but he also brings a
powerful bi-partisan element to the already strong support for the bill. As of
today, there are 245 House co-sponsors and 69 Senate co-sponsors, and hearings on the bill
are scheduled for September.
NEAL urges members of the Lebanese American community to express their thanks to Senator
Kerry for co-sponsoring the bill.
